About Kondakarla Ava
Kondakarla Ava is a famous lake and bird sanctuary in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh located at a distance of 49 kms from Visakhapatnam (Vizag) Railway Station, in Kondakarla Village at Atchutapuram mandal. Kondakarla Ava is famous for the biggest water lakes in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Kondakarla Ava is surrounded by Greenhills, all around the lake makes it a picturesque location, and the water of the lake is surrounded by Coconut trees one side.
The Birds Sanctuary consists of a unique and endangered forest type, and wet green forest. It has been recognized as an eco-tourism destination; it is managed by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and Kondakarla Panchayat. Kondakarla is located in the foot hills of eastern ghats, the wet green forest comprise of species like shelducks, common teals, northern pintails and Asian open bills are found in the bird sanctuary and also other species like Typha angustata, Nymphoides indica, Azolla filiculoides, Pistia stratiotes are also found here.

The opening time of the bird sanctuary is 5:30 a.m. and closes by 8:30 p.m. It is open all weekdays. Kondakarla Ava freshwater Lake is the home of many birds, and it is one of the main places for photographers and bird watchers. Boating practised in the freshwater lake, the local fishermen and villagers prepared boats by joining two logs palm trees and making a sitting arrangement by placing a wooden plank over it.
These Boats are quite stable in water, there are no fixed rates for boat ride but usually boatmen charge Rs.300/- for one and half hour to navigate to the other side of the lake. There is a temple of Lord Venkateswara Over Hill at the other side of the lake. The nearby tourist places to Kondakarla Ava is the Buddhist Heritage site near Sankaram Village at Bojjannakonda. Kondakarla Ava is at a distance of 49 km from the city and you can easily take your vehicle or book a taxi or take a bus to reach the beach.
