Indira Gandhi Zoological Park Visakhapatnam (Vizag)
Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is about 11 kms from Visakhapatnam Railway Station. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is located near Kambalakonda in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. It is the 3rd Largest Zoo in the country. It is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It was opened to the public on May 19, 1977. It covers an area of 625 acres. It is situated in Visakhapatnam in between Eastern Ghats of India. It is covered by Easter Ghats on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on one side. There are Eighty Species of mammals, birds and reptiles present in the Zoological Park, more than 800 animals in number.
The Zoo had different types of mammal, or Primates carnivores, herbivores, reptiles and birds caged in the natural ambiance. It is on the National Highway5 near Madhurawada. The Entrance and Exit gates situated opposite to each other, one towards N.H-5 and other towards Beach road at Sagar Nagar. It is Open to Public on all Week days except Monday. The Timings of Zoo Park is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Zoo Park has special dens for lions and tigers. Six enclosers designed for deer’s and eight enclosures specially designed for little mammals. The Zoo Park is popular for white tigers.

In collaboration with stardust ventures LLP, Vizag zoo launches a web portal to showcase the latest events to the public. It also allows general public to adopt an animal certain time period. The zoo park provides battery vehicles to visit zoo. The zoo park is provided by Wi-Fi facility. Special breeding programs will be conducted for various animals like Indian wild dog, white tigers, spotted deer’s, wild boars and birds etc. There will be activities like best interactive and impressive, innovative knowledge educational activities will be conducted by zoo park authorities. It is a pollution free environment and it is a best picnic spot and a tourist place for all age group of people.
Best time to visit Zoo Park Visakhapatnam
Like all other wildlife sanctuaries and zoos across the country, winter is the best time to plan a visit to this park. It is easier to visit the park at this time since the temperature during the day is perfect to stay outdoors and on a sunny day it takes animals out of their dens. The high season in the park is from October to mid-May and since the weather at this time is very pleasant, the park receives many tourists from all over the world.
It is an event that is widely enjoyed by people of all ages and also by wildlife enthusiasts. Throughout the week various competitions and contests are organized that aim to raise awareness about nature and wildlife.
Entry Fee and Timings for Indira Gandhi Zoological Park
The Indira Gandhi Zoo is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday. The park is closed on Mondays. The entrance fee to visit the Indira Gandhi Zoo is Rs. 50/- for adults and Rs. 10/- for children (Age below 3-12 years). Still Camera, Camera mobile etc for Rs.30/- Per each. For Video Camera Rs.150/-.
How to Reach ZOO Park
The park is located near Dairy Farm, Yendada Nursery, near Kambalakonda, Visakhapatnam (Vizag). You can take a private bus or taxi from the main car rental companies in Vizag to the park which is 11 km away from Visakhapatnam train station and 6 km by car from RTC complex in Hyderabad.
