Visakhapatnam (Vizag) Port is one of the 13 Major Ports in India and the only major Port of Andhra Pradesh. It is the second largest port for handling the volume of cargo. It is located on east coast of India in the middle of Chennai and Kolkata Ports. The Visakhapatnam Port has Three Harbours the Outer Harbour, Inner Harbour and Fishing harbour. The Dolphin’s Nose Hill is on the Northern side, The Entrance Channel Protects the harbour from Cyclones that hit The East coast.

It is The Major Tourist Attractions of Visakhapatnam. The Port Started in 1933 and it has transformed itself into a big major port with a capacity to handle more than 125 million tons per annum. The cargo Handled by the port includes Iron ore, Coal, Crude Oil, Petroleum Products, LPG, Fertilizers, Dry Cargoes, Liquid Cargoes & Containers. The Port was open to Ocean traffic by the arrival of a passenger Vessel S.S. Jala Durga of the Scindia Steam Navigation Company on 7th October 1933.

The Port played a major role in the economic growth of the industries of petroleum, steel power and fertilizer sectors. A quality of 65.30 million tons of cargo was handled by the port in the year of 2018-19.

An efficient cargo infrastructure has been Developed by the Port for Transportation of Cargo by Rail and Road. The Port has a Railway Network of about 185 kms which has been linked to the South-Central Railway and East Coast Railway of Indian Railways.

The connectivity of Road for the Transport of Cargo to North and South is through Chennai-Howrah NH-16. The Visakhapatnam Port is placed in top slot for “good” categories in port performances in qualitative as well as quantitative business transactions.
