Kurupam Tomb has got a historic as well as cultural significance, that is the reason it is one of the major attractions for the tourist. This Tomb has been ranked as 39 among 46 sight seeing places in Visakhapatnam. It is a 100 years old tomb which was constructed in the profound memory of Queen of Kurupam. It is famous for its architectural style in the beautiful surroundings of Visakhapatnam.
Kurupam Tomb, has some unpredictable carvings on sandstone which has been inspired by Dravidian, Mughal, European and North Indian Culture and the style reflecting in them. The tomb has a beautiful shikara and the dome, which are engraved with stone carvings of various deities along with floral motifs. It was built by Kurupam raja as a memorial for his beloved wife.
The Kurupam Tomb located at the Vuda Park on the Bheemili Road close to the Waltair Beach is an ancient mausoleum of Visakhapatnam that was erected by Rajah Vyricherla Veerabhadra Raju Bahadur, the Zamindar of Kurupam in the fond memory of his beloved wife Rani Lakshmi Narasayamma Pattamahadevi. It is also known as a ‘Visakha Taj Mahal’ (Taj Mahal of Visakhapatnam). It signs the sagas of the true love nurtured in the heart of the Zamindar of Kurupam towards his life companion. Presently maintained as the ancestral private property of Kurupam Zamindar family, the Kurupam Tomb greatly frequented by the tourists of Visakhapatnam is predominantly acclaimed for its exquisite architectural.
This ‘legacy site’, has not been protected by the Visakhapatnam urban authorities in spite of placing it in the ensured coastal management zone according to master plan ESOMs No. 345 of June 30, 2006. Unfortunately, could not effectively stop the development inside prohibited area. The Scenic beauty of the Vuda Park makes it more interesting place to visit for the tourist.
