Often operating in stealth, sometimes royally, bike lifters in the city keep the police on their toes The recent arrest of notorious bike lifter Velaga Veerayya Chowdary by the Gajuwaka Police, has resulted in recovery of 130 stolen motorcycles in the city. It was a shock even to the men-in-khaki, who came to know that the accused has been committing the offences for the last six years and was never caught. Though there has been a drop in the number of thefts in the last couple of years, what continues to keep the police on their toes is the innovative modus operandi adopted by the bike lifters.
